World Book Day is celebrating its 25th year of changing lives through a love of shared reading. My timeline this morning has featured some amazing characters including Dennis the Menace, Jeremy Clarkson, Paddington Bear, Gangster Granny and a Ladybird. My godson went to school as a bank robber for the third year running!
Representing the ‘Town of Books’ in Hay on Wye, I am thrilled to be a part of the Conservative Women’s Book Club in Parliament. It was a delight to recently meet with author Bonnie Garmus and hear her journey to writing her first novel. I am currently reading her debut book 'Lessons in chemistry' and it is totally addictive. It will be published next month and I would be delighted to lend it to whoever might find it interesting.
World Book Day is a superb campaign. It is so important that every child is encouraged to read and as an important part of our schools calendar it has enabled just this, through its invaluable sponsorship by National Book Tokens. Every child will receive a £1 book token which they can either swap for a World Book Day book or use as £1 off a book of their choice.
Please do visit the National Book Token website to learn more about their 'Design a National Book Token Competition' 2022 to win Book tokens for your school, yourself and your teacher.
Books bring people together, they take children on incredible journeys, just a few minutes reading every day makes a huge difference in our lives.
