A project celebrating Welsh and KwaZulu heritage awarded funding by the UK Shared Prosperity Funding (Levelling Up) has been welcomed by Fay Jones MP.
The Goodwill Festival- which celebrates the Welsh and KwaZulu Natal Shared Heritage- has been awarded £15,644, which will be used by the Friends of the Royal Welsh Museum, to support a four-day Zulu festival in Brecon during the summer of 2024.
The people of Brecon are incredibly proud to be the home of the Royal Welsh Regimental Museum, which is full of over 400 years of military history including artifacts of the 1879 Zulu War. The Friends work tirelessly raising funds and educational awareness sharing the many stories of the regiments, the first and second world war, and the Anglo-Zulu war.
The festival will embrace both Zulu and Welsh culture and heritage through various activities and workshops, and includes a re-enactment between the Zulus and 1879 Group for the battle if Isandlwana.
Ms Jones said
“ZULU the film was actually released 60 years ago this year so I can’t think of more fitting way to celebrate the epic film and of course the 1879 Zulu War. I’m delighted for Dorcas and the team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to keep the story alive for future generations of visitors. This award is a testament to all their hard work, and I am looking forward to the celebrations this summer”
