The thousands of people who attended the Winter Fair will no doubt agree that this year’s event was as successful as ever with the best of the best in livestock, Welsh produce, displays and trade stands, in attendance. Fay was delighted to see so many school children in attendance and learning so much about the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and farming community’s story. Our agriculture heritage is ingrained in us but isn’t always understood by others and so educating the next generation on our food production and high food standards is vitally important.
Fay was incredibly proud to see such strong competition over the two days and especially glad to see awards staying in Brecon and Radnorshire for another year. Amongst them Nixons Farms, Pen-Min-Cae, who won the best food stand and Ernie Richards, a shepherd from near Clyro, who was awarded the NFU Cymru/NFU Mutual Welsh Livestock Champion of the Year Award. The standard of competition amongst the Young Farmers was once more exemplary and Fay would like to congratulate all those representing their federations.
During the Winter Fair Fay met with Wales YFC at their Llanelwedd base for an overdue catch up and learnt about their plans for the future and their long-term building project. The YFC are such an important part of our community and their building provides meeting space for many local and national businesses. Fay will do all she can to support their project.
Thank you to the many competitors, trade stands, sponsors and those working behind the scenes with exhibitions and displays, it is your efforts that make the Winter Fair such a success.
Fay was delighted for the new Chief Executive Aled Rhys Jones that both days were such a success. Steve Hughson has clearly left the Showground in incredibly safe hands.
